Welcome back

The Jennie Sealy Hospital

Construction of the new Jennie Sealy Hospital is one of the key priorities for UTMB’s Working Wonders Campaign. When the university first began to conceive of this project, we spoke of it as the cornerstone of our ambitions. But we know it as much more. It is an expression of our desire to do even more for the hundreds of thousands of patients who call on us, year in and year out. To bring the latest technological tools to bear on surgical care for patients from across the region, throughout the state and around the world. To provide a training platform for tomorrow’s health care pioneers.

Of the Working Wonders Campaign's $450 million goal, $270 million of that is dedicated to the hospital. The new Jennie Sealy Hospital will include:

  • 316 patient rooms, representing one of the state’s leading inpatient care resources. With their ample space and open layout, these rooms will promote a team-based, patient- and family-centered approach to care.
  • 20 expansive, state-of-the-art operating suites, including dedicated space for neurosurgery, organ transplantation and orthopedic surgery—each able to accommodate the most technologically-demanding procedures
  • A 60-bed intensive care unit (among the hospital’s 316 patient rooms)
  • A 28-bed day surgery unit
  • Elevated walkways that connect the hospital both to the university’s existing John Sealy Hospital and the university’s award-winning Level I Trauma Center
